Dr. Coppélius, Swanilda, Franz
Coppelia is a ballet about a puppet called Coppelia (or The Girl with the Enamel Eyes) that Dr. Coppélius made. She is sat on a balcony in Dr. Coppélius' workshop and everyone that went past tried to get her attention. She never replied to anyone and Swanilda got really annoyed that she didn't respond. Until Dr. Coppélius saw that Franz (Swanilda's boyfriend) was looking and he put Franz under a trance. This made Franz look lovingly at Coppelia and she started to move. Unfortunately Swanilda saw this. This made her jealous and she thought he liked Coppelia. So when Franz went to take some flowers to Swanilda, she got mad and somehow managed to get into Coppélius' workshop with her friends. Swanilda then realised that Coppelia is actually a mechanical doll and that was how she had appeared to move for Franz. She made a plan to make it look like Coppelia would come to life and dressed in the doll's clothes. They also set all his clockwork dolls in motion. She dances and when Coppélius returns he thinks his doll has come to life. When he finds the still lifeless body he realises that he has been tricked. The end of the ballet is when Franz and Swanilda make up and they celebrate their wedding.
I am going to make hats to reflect my interpretation of the characters in the ballet. I will draw a lot of designs for these hats.
